Nigerian Doctor Sues Air France Over Deportation
A Nigerian medical doctor, Olaseni Adesina, who has been in France for 34 years, has dragged Air France to the Federal High Court in Lagos over claims of “forceful transportation from the Charles De Gaulle Airport, Paris, France, to Murtala Mohammed airport, Lagos, without any deportation order issued by the
French authorities and under dehumanising conditions.”
In the suit number FHC/L/CS/236/10 dated 23rd February, 2010, and filed by BA Adedeji of Falana and Falana’s chambers, Dr Adesina said that “I have been living in France since the 13th October, 1973 without any criminal record. On June 7, 2007, I was kidnapped by the French Secret Service Officers at exactly 230 p.m in Annemasse when on a private visit. About 730 a.m. on Sunday, June 17 2007, four plainclothed French security officers manhandled me and unlawfully pushed me into a waiting Air France plane in Lyon to Nigeria enroute Paris.”
The applicant also said that “I protested not to enter the aircraft of Air France, which caused the French officials to brutally kick me, twist my neck, strangulate my throat, tie my feet together with my belt and hauled me flatly into the waiting Air France plane. Throughout the flight from Lyon to Paris, I remained in this position until we got to Charles De Gaulle Airport. I was transferred into another Air France aircraft in Charles De Gaulle airport where I was issued an Air France flight ticket to Nigeria.
“I challenged the authority of the captain of Air France to accept me on board without due process and proceedings being followed. The captain refused to talk and I was brutally forced to a seat at the back of the plane and flown to Nigeria in between two French security men.“
